Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will deliver a campaign speech on Friday in Phoenix, discussing “his path forward.” This announcement follows comments from his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, who suggested that the campaign is contemplating whether to stay in the 2024 race or drop out to support Donald Trump.
Shanahan revealed that the campaign is considering two options: continuing in the race and potentially risking a Harris-Walz presidency or withdrawing to “join forces” with Trump. Meanwhile, Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, have communicated with Kennedy’s campaign.
Vance indicated that while Trump is working to garner Kennedy’s support, there has been no promise of a Cabinet position in exchange for an endorsement. He also emphasized that Trump’s appeal to Democrats who feel abandoned by the party is central to their outreach to Kennedy.
Kennedy’s campaign has faced challenges, including slipping poll numbers, financial difficulties, and damaging stories. The campaign is currently $3 million in debt, and a recent disqualification in New York has hindered Kennedy’s efforts for ballot access in all 50 states. Kennedy’s Friday speech will likely clarify the campaign’s next steps.
