Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft has threatened to exclude President Joe Biden from the state’s ballot in response to decisions in Colorado and Maine that Donald Trump might be disqualified due to insurrection. Ashcroft’s comment on social media followed the Supreme Court’s decision to review Colorado’s ruling, which was based on the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This amendment bars individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding federal office.

Ashcroft, in an interview, expressed his belief that the Supreme Court will overturn Colorado’s decision but warned of potential chaos if it doesn’t. He plans to file an amicus brief, emphasizing the repercussions if states start disqualifying candidates. He justified the possible disqualification of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris by citing their alleged involvement in border issues and support for 2020’s racial justice protests.

Colorado and Maine, holding their primaries on Super Tuesday, have not removed Trump from the ballot as their cases are still in the legal system. In Maine, the decision against Trump was made by the Democratic secretary of state, which was different from the court’s decision in Colorado.
