A Fox News reporter, Lucas Tomlinson, has been accused of “astroturfing a political attack” by focusing on President Joe Biden’s age without acknowledging a broader context. Biden, who is 81 and seeking reelection, has been a subject of age-related scrutiny, being the oldest president in U.S. history. However, his supporters often point out that former President Donald Trump, his potential opponent in 2024, is only four years younger and has also faced questions about his cognitive abilities.

The controversy arose when Tomlinson, while covering Biden in Nantucket, asked the president if he was too old to run for reelection, to which Biden responded dismissively. This incident was highlighted on Twitter, where Tomlinson was criticized for framing the question as a widespread concern, despite it being his own query. Journalist Aaron Rupar and others accused Tomlinson of creating a misleading narrative by using his question to suggest a broader public doubt about Biden’s age.

The situation has garnered attention, with figures like Brian Stelter and Andrew Bates, a deputy press secretary for the Biden administration, commenting on the issue. Bates humorously questioned the identity of the reporter who asked the question, implying it was Tomlinson himself.
