The White House has denounced the owner of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter (X) and Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, for their promotion of anti-Semitism. White House spokesman Andrew Bates labeled Musk’s endorsement of an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory in a post on X as “unacceptable” and characterized it as a “hideous lie.”
Bates emphasized the importance of standing against hate and speaking out against those who attack the dignity of fellow Americans while compromising community safety. The White House’s reaction was prompted by Musk’s response to an anti-Semitic post on X, where he stated, “You have said the actual truth.”
The original post, widely interpreted as a reference to a conspiracy theory that alleges Jews have a secret plan to bring in illegal immigrants to weaken white majorities, has been strongly condemned. Notably, this theory was propagated by the individual responsible for a mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018, resulting in the deaths of 11 people.
Bates highlighted the inappropriateness of perpetuating such a lie, particularly in light of recent events, including the deadly attack on Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7.
