Senate Republicans, spearheaded by Senators Lindsey Graham, Tom Cotton, and James Lankford, have presented immigration reform conditions for any Ukraine aid package.

Their demands include resuming border wall construction, increasing Border Patrol pay, overhauling asylum laws, and restricting asylum for migrants passing through third countries. They propose a higher threshold for asylum claims, mandating migrants to seek asylum at legal entry points.

The GOP aims to expedite deportations by eliminating “frivolous delays” and ending the “catch and release” practice. These proposals align with the House’s Secure the Border Act of 2023, which Democrats reject. Meanwhile, the Biden administration seeks funding for border security enhancements, including additional personnel and technology to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
