Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, filed a motion to subpoena former President Donald Trump and former top Justice Department officials. This action is part of his defense against federal gun charges he’s facing. Citing public reports of “incessant, improper, and partisan pressure” from Trump’s administration, particularly directed at then-Attorney General William Barr and senior Justice Department officials Richard Donoghue and Jeffrey Rosen, Biden’s legal team suggests that these pressures might have tainted the investigation into him.

Hunter Biden has been charged with a felony for lying about drug use on a gun purchase form. His plea deal fell apart, and Trump’s subsequent public criticism of the deal as a “massive coverup” may have influenced the severity of the charges against Hunter Biden. The motion also highlights public statements made by Trump that seemingly call for Hunter Biden’s investigation and prosecution, pointing to potential improper political influence.

The request for subpoenas is aimed at obtaining documents that might prove the political pressure exerted by Trump and others from January 20, 2017, to the present. Hunter Biden’s lawyers are seeking to have these documents produced by December 1, emphasizing the need for a fair and politically untainted legal process.
