The Biden administration’s clean energy initiative has encountered a significant setback with the cancellation of NuScale Power’s small modular nuclear reactor project. This follows the recent termination of two major offshore wind projects.
The NuScale project, which had been in development for a decade, aimed to replace power from closing coal plants and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
However, it faced financial hurdles and insufficient interest from local power providers, leading to its cancellation. Despite this, other companies are nearing the submission of their small modular reactor designs for certification, suggesting continued interest in this technology.
