Lawyers representing former President Donald Trump have initiated legal proceedings against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, aiming to ensure Trump’s name appears on the state’s 2024 presidential primary and general election ballots.
The lawsuit contends that Benson, by not responding to a letter from the Trump campaign, is “generating uncertainty” and asserts that she does not have the constitutional authority to disqualify him.
While other legal efforts have been made to exclude Trump from the candidate list, Benson, who is a Democrat, has clarified that she has no intention of barring Trump from the ballot, stating that determining his eligibility is not within her purview.
