The Texas House of Representatives’ General Investigating Committee, led by Republicans, recently moved forward with investigating Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) and recommended articles of impeachment for various alleged misconduct and potential crimes.
Four former state prosecutors, commissioned by the Texas House, revealed a number of allegations against Paxton, including accepting bribes from a real estate developer and firing deputies who reported it.
If the state House approves the impeachment recommendation with a two-thirds vote, Paxton will need to step down from his top attorney post until he faces trial in the state Senate.
In 2016, Paxton was indicted by a state grand jury for securities fraud.
