South Carolina Senator Tim Scott has officially announced his intention to run for President in the 2024 election, according to multiple sources. The announcement was made in his home state of South Carolina, following an official Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing on Friday.

As the only Black Republican in the Senate, Scott’s entry into the race adds depth to the Republican primary field. Despite being considered an underdog in a field led by former President Donald Trump, Scott’s announcement has been met with interest.

Scott’s campaign is expected to head to Iowa and New Hampshire following the announcement. His candidacy comes at a time when the Republican primary field is becoming increasingly crowded, with former Governors Nikki Haley and Asa Hutchinson, and former President Donald Trump also seeking the Republican nomination.

Scott’s official campaign website is yet to be launched. More details about his campaign and policy positions are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
