The U.S. economy gained 916,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell to 6 percent, in the strongest indication yet that the labor market is working its way back to pre-pandemic norms as the number of vaccinations in the U.S. continues to rise.
While the unemployment rate is far from the April peak of 14.8 percent, it is still not close to the pre-pandemic level of 3.5 percent, the lowest unemployment level in almost 50 years.
