On August 13th, Joe Biden stated “Every single American should be wearing a mask when they’re outside for the next three months, at a minimum,” and later continued “Every governor should mandate mandatory mask-wearing.”
It is unclear how the logistics of such an order could be deployed and within what timeline it would be feasible. However, he stated earlier this summer it could be done by “Making sure that everybody had masks. That you had PPE lined up…stockpile all the things that we need and don’t have now.” Later in the interview, he answered a question related to his executive responsibility on the matter by saying he would do everything possible to make wearing a mask a requirement in public settings.
In response, President Trump stated “We’ve been saying wear them when it’s appropriate…what do you have to lose?” and “We will continue to urge Americans to wear masks when they cannot social distance, but we do not need to bring the full weight of the federal government…to accomplish this goal.”
